The most perfectly cooked tuna that you need to make for your next weeknight dinner or for lunch this week!

The Deets:
You’re going to want to save this recipe because it features the most perfectly cooked tuna—ideal for a quick, flavorful, and protein-packed lunch this week. Let me introduce you to my sesame-crusted seared tuna bowls! They’re not only incredibly delicious but also packed with nutrients and so simple to make.
To get that golden sear, start with a high-quality, sushi-grade piece of tuna. Brush it lightly with soy sauce to help the coating stick, then press it into a generous layer of sesame seeds, ensuring every inch is covered. The key to getting that perfect crust? A pan that’s piping hot. Heat a little oil until it’s shimmering, then carefully place the tuna in the pan. Sear for just a couple of minutes on each side until the sesame seeds are toasted and the inside remains rare.
Once your tuna is cooked to perfection, it’s time to build your bowl. I love serving mine over a bed of fluffy rice with a refreshing, tangy, and slightly spicy cucumber salad on the side. Add some edamame for extra protein and crunch, and top it all off with your favorite fixings—think avocado, pickled ginger, sriracha mayo, or even a drizzle of ponzu sauce.
It’s fresh, flavorful, and beyond easy to make. Trust me, you’ll be adding this one to your weekly rotation! If you enjoyed this, be sure to check out some more lunch ideas here!

Sesame crusted seared tuna bowls
Ingredients
The Tuna:
- 1 Sushi grade tuna steak 1/2 lb of tuna per person
- 1 cup Sesame seeds
- A few tbsp of soy sauce
- Oil for frying (I like avocado oil or another light oil)
The Cucumber Salad:
- 1 cup Cucumbers, diced
- 1 tbsp Kewpie mayo
- 1 tbsp Sriracha
- 1 tsp Sweet chili sauce
- 1/2 tsp Sesame oil
- 1 tsp Soy sauce
- Furikake
The Rest:
- Sushi rice
- Edamame
- Scallions, chopped
- Radishes, thinly sliced
Instructions
- Wash and pat dry tuna. Coat in a layer of soy sauce. Add sesame seeds to a shallow bowl in an even layer. Coat all sides of the tuna.
- Get a skillet ripping hot and turn on fan as it will get a little smoky (don’t worry, it’s quick). Once oil is hot, add tuna and let sear for 1-3 min (depending on how thick your steak is). Flip and repeat on other side.
- Remove and slice into strips. Make cucumber salad by combining all ingredients in a bowl and mixing well until combined. Serve with sushi rice and any other fixings you like! Enjoy!
