My red wine-glazed cipollini onions are the perfect veggie holiday side dish.

The Deets:
Looking for a wonderful holiday side dish idea? Look no further than red wine-glazed cipollini onions! 😍 These little gems are slightly sweeter than pearl onions and perfectly bite-sized, meaning no cutting or prep—just pure deliciousness. Not only do they make a stunning addition to your holiday table, but they’re also super easy to whip up.
Here’s how I made them: I started by cooking the cipollini onions in a skillet with butter and garlic until they softened and became fragrant. Then, I added a sprinkle of fresh thyme for a subtle herbal note and poured in some red wine to create a rich, flavorful glaze. As the wine simmers, it thickens into a sauce that perfectly coats the onions. In just a few simple steps, you’ve got a side dish that’s elegant, flavorful, and sure to impress your guests! These are a must-try for the holidays—or any time you’re looking to elevate your dinner table. Let me know what you think! Leave a comment if you make these cipollini onions. Here’s how to make them:

Red Wine Glazed Cipollini Onions
Ingredients
- 1 bag of cipollini onions
- 4 tbsp butter
- 3 sprigs of thyme
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 cup red wine
- 1 tbsp sugar (I’ve used both white and brown sugar and both work fine!)
Instructions
- Melt butter in a skillet, and then add onions. Sauté for about 5 minutes. Add garlic and sugar and cook for about a minute or until sugar has absorbed and the onions start to get a glaze.
- Add wine and let cook down slightly (it’ll finish in the oven).Transfer to a glass dish and add a few sprigs of thyme so the onions. Cover with tin foil and cook on 350 for about 25 min, stirring onions every 10 min or so.
- Remove foil and cook for another 10 min or until sauce has thickened and the onions have glazed nicely. Serve with some fresh thyme on top. Enjoy!
