This grilled cheese is taken to the next level with caramelized onion cheddar and pepper jelly.

The Deets
A friend recently introduced me to the amazing Trader Joe’s caramelized onion cheddar cheese, and if you haven’t tried it yet, you need to! The rich, savory flavor of the caramelized onions paired with the sharpness of the cheddar is the perfect match for a gooey grilled cheese. For an extra kick, I added some hot pepper jelly, and let me tell you, it took this sandwich to a whole new level. The sweetness and heat from the jelly balanced out the rich, cheesy goodness, creating the most delicious flavor combo. Seriously, it’s the ultimate comfort food for a weekend treat!
For this masterpiece, I chose sourdough, which added that perfectly crisp and slight tanginess, but feel free to use any bread you love. The texture of the sourdough worked so well with the melty cheese and jelly, but a hearty whole grain or even a soft brioche would be amazing too. I used Stonewall Kitchen’s hot pepper jelly, which brought sweetness and spice. This combo is a must-try for your next lazy weekend lunch or snack. It’s easy, and incredibly tasty, and the perfect excuse to level up your grilled cheese game! If. you liked this sandwich, check out my other recipes here.
