Hot honey candied bacon avocado toast

This avocado toast is topped with hot honey candied bacon for a little kick!

The Deets

The ultimate avocado toast starts with a slice of toasted sourdough as the foundation, topped with creamy farmer’s cheese, mashed avocado, and a perfectly poached egg. But the real star of this dish is the hot honey candied bacon—it takes the whole thing to a new level of deliciousness. Once you try candied bacon, you’ll be hooked. The sweet heat from the hot honey caramelizes beautifully over the bacon as it bakes, creating a crispy, sticky, and slightly spicy bite that pairs perfectly with the richness of the avocado and the tang of the cheese.

Candied bacon is surprisingly easy to make, too. All you need to do is line a baking sheet with parchment paper, place the bacon slices in a single layer, and brush each piece generously with hot honey. Then, pop it in the oven, and in no time, you’ll have bacon that’s both sweet and savory, with a little kick. For the egg, I love a poached egg because the runny yolk adds a luxurious creaminess that ties everything together, but feel free to use the egg of your choice—whether it’s scrambled, fried, or even soft-boiled, it’ll complement the other ingredients perfectly. This avocado toast is a total flavor explosion and a must-try for your next breakfast or brunch! If you enjoyed this, check out my other toast ideas here.

Ingredients

  • bread of choice
  • EVOO
  • 3 tbsp farmers cheese
  • 1 tbsp hot honey
  • 3 strips bacon
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 avocado

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and then add slices of bacon to the sheet. Brush hot honey over one side of the bacon and back for about 10 min or until crispy and golden.
  • Poach your egg: crack your egg into a shallow bowl. This will help to ensure a safe toss into the water. Once your water is boiling, use a spoon and stir until you create a little swirl/tornado in the water. Carefully drop egg in and stir continuously making sure to keep it in the swirl. After 1 min use a slotted spoon to remove egg.
  • Coat bread in olive oil and cook in a pan for 2-3 min per side on medium heat. Remove and spread on farmers cheese or another cheese like ricotta.
  • Slice avocado and add to toast along with bacon. Top with poached egg. Enjoy!
