My smoked salmon cottage cheese bagel dip is the easiest breakfast dip that is perfect for groups.

It’s a creamy, flavorful dip that pairs perfectly with bagels, crackers, or fresh veggies, making it ideal for sharing during a holiday breakfast, a weekend brunch, or even just as a mid-day snack.

I used Breakstone’s cottage cheese as the base, adding a dollop of whipped cream cheese to make it even creamier. For extra depth of flavor, I mixed in caramelized shallots and fresh scallions, giving it a subtle sweetness and a hint of oniony freshness. Finally, I topped it with rich, smoky salmon, but you can get creative and add your favorite toppings—perhaps capers, fresh dill, or even everything bagel seasoning.

Smoked salmon cottage cheese bagel dip

Ingredients

The cottage cheese dip:

  • 1 cup Breakstones Cottage Cheese
  • 1/3 cup Cream cheese
  • 1/3 cup Caramelized shallots (see below)
  • 2 Scallions
  • Zest of half a lemon
  • Juice of half a lemon
  • 2 tbsp Everything but the bagel seasoning

The toppings:

  • Smoked salmon 
  • More everything but the bagel seasoning 
  • Dill
  • Red onion
  • Capers
  • Pomegranate 

The caramelized shallots:

  • 3  Shallots, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsp Butter
  • Salt
  • Pepper

Instructions 

  • Thinly slice shallots and add to a skillet with 2 tbsp butter, a pinch of salt and pepper. Cook stirring often on medium to low heat for about 15 min or until the shallots are cooked down and a deep brown.
  • Add all cottage cheese dip ingredients to a bowl and mix until creamy and combined.
  • Top with pieces of smoked salmon and whatever other toppings you like. Serve with bagel chips, crackers or actual bagels! Enjoy!
